Bumblebee’s Learning Experiences W/c 12th September 2016

Posted on Sunday, September 11, 2016 in Bumblebees Learning

The Bumblebees have really enjoyed finding out all about their farmyard friends, not just discovering their names but also being able to imitate the sounds that each animal makes.  This week we will be moving further afield as we introduce and create our own Noah’s ark for the children to fill.  Which animals will they choose?  Who knows we might discover some that we have not seen before.  Will they go in two by two and if so will we be able to find the matching pair?  As we investigate these animals we will be thinking about how they move and attempt to copy their actions as we wriggle like a snake, sway our arms like an elephant, walk like a lion and waddle like a penguin.

It sounds like an ideal time to introduce the story of ‘Animal Bop’ and the younger babies will be able to add to the rumpus with musical instruments as the percussion to the animal sounds.  Could a drum sound like a stomp, stomp, stomp? Or maybe the bells could be the monkeys laughing through the trees?  Let’s explore and have fun with a range of sounds together.

Outside we will be concentrating on our gross motor movements as we explore balls of different shapes and sizes.  We are going to have a great time as we watch how far we can roll, throw or kick them. Will we crawl, walk, or run after them?  Are we clever enough to catch them?  Once we have got them back, can we throw them high in the sky or bounce them low on the ground?  In the malleable area there will be spaghetti and cheerios.  I wonder how many we will be able to put onto our strand?  Can we count 1, 2, 3….  If this is too easy, never fear we will be adding other such textures to put our threading skills to the test.

Our construction area will be going BIG , as we work together to build large scale buildings using a range of big, medium and small cardboard boxes to construct.  Look out for the models that may come home.  This leads in nicely with our role play as we use tools, diggers, bricks and dumpers to recreate a building site.  Don’t forget to put on your high vis jacket and hard hat before entering.

Home Learning

  • Let me tip out your recycling boxes, so that I can explore and build with a range of materials.  Make sure there are no sharp edges!
  • Put on some music and dance with me.
