With the weather turning colder and the frosty mornings, it’s time to explore ice in the warmth of the indoors.  We are about to have a lot of fun as we make marks with coloured ice lollies.  Explore the texture of ice as it changes from crunchy to slushy and discover hidden treasures within the ice cubes.  Let the investigation begin.  Who knows if we’re lucky we may be able to explore some snow too! Keeping the water feature going welcome to our underwater rock pool, where we will be able to...

Our babies have loved exploring the texture of cornflour and enjoying it trickle and drop from their fingers. This week we will be taking it further as we bring textures into other features of our play.  Look out for the natural materials and resources such as melons, grapefruits, oranges and lemons to roll.  Let’s explore materials as we add small people, animals and cars to the equation, to encourage language and imagination.  We will be able to touch, feel and play peek-a-boo as we drape,...

From looking after and caring for our pets, this week we are taking it a little more seriously as they start to feel poorly and get into scrapes as they play.  What will we do?  Become vets of course.  Watch us as we investigate our medical bags and take temperatures, give injections and bandage their injuries. After a rest, they’ll be back to normal in no time! In our small world area, we’ll be popping down to the station to see all the engines standing in a row.  Will we be able to put them...

We are going to be exploring the story of the Hungry Caterpillar as we discover colours, fruits and numbers.  I wonder what they will taste like?  Will we be able to put all the apples together?  How about the bananas and the strawberries?  Taking this interest a little further we will be getting really small as we discover the world of mini beasts. What will you find finding under the leaf?  What’s that crawling along the log?  Who knows when we’re outside maybe we will be able to hunt for...

Our filling and emptying will be taking place in the malleable area this week as we use different sized pots and spoons to manipulate coloured rice.  How will it feel against our hands and what sound will it make as it hits the tray?  Will you know when your pot is full? Back in the construction area we will be still looking at filling but also ways to transport as we introduce a simple pulley system, wheelbarrows and dumper trucks to the equation.  Will the builders get their bricks on time?...

With our younger Bumblebees beginning too settle, we will be setting up a cosy corner with cushions, soft mats, soft bricks and books to enable relationships to be made and an opportunity for tummy time.  Let us kick those legs and stretch our bodies as we lift our head to look around or reach out for toys that we want to explore. Over in our construction area, we will be adding coloured buckets to our selection of construction bricks to fill and empty.  With colour in mind, the children will...
