Caterpillar’s Learning Experiences W/c 14th November 2016

Posted on Sunday, November 13, 2016 in Caterpillars Learning

What a busy week we have lined up as we explore the world of categorising, sorting and matching.  The Caterpillars have been showing a huge interest in numbers, after demonstrating that they can recognise some numerals, we would now like to extend on this by being able to put the correct quantity of objects to the numeral in question.  With the use of flash cards, posting boxes and number toys, let the fun begin.  This thought continues outside with an opportunity to explore the marble runs and balls.  With different colours and sizes to compare will the big ball fit down the little chute or will we need to reconsider?  Can you roll all the red balls down and then the blue?  Could you even be clever enough to roll out a sequence of green, yellow, green yellow?  Let’s give it a try.

The children are currently enjoying mark making using a range of tools and materials.  In the garden, children will have the opportunity to work collaboratively together as they draw group pictures.  Meanwhile, over in the sand, we will be creating a construction site with diggers, dumpers, bricks and work tools.  Alongside filling and emptying, I wonder what marks the tools will create?

Back inside our pond water feature will be turning into a swamp as we incorporate the story of the selfish crocodile.  I wonder what other creatures we will meet in the story and will you be able to act it out? This imaginative scene will also engage children with singing popular songs such as; Three Cheeky Monkeys or even copying animal actions from the Sticky Kids Songs

Home Learning

Use my dolls or teddies to show me how to pretend to look after a baby or use my cars to show me how to pretend to go on a journey.  Talk to me about the things you are using and what you are doing with them.

Count with me as you put my clothes on, like “one sock, two socks” or “one buttons, two buttons, three buttons, four buttons”.
