Butterflies Learning Experiences W/c 28th November 2016

The children have had a great time making cakes with the play dough in a range of shapes and sizes.  This week we will be doing it for real as we create a variety of different foods to taste.  Look out for our trifles as we watch the consistency change over time, our chopping skills as we make fruit kebabs and our coloured marble cake.  Instead of weighing children will be following recipes that enable them to recognise numerals and to scoop the correct amount of tablespoons into the bowl.

Our investigation of wind has led us into thinking about how things move and children will be exploring this through remote control cars, magnets, wheels and push and pull toys.  Meanwhile over in the colour area look out for all the fun experiments that Katie has planned for the week.  We can’t wait to see the fizzing colour mixing activity.

Outside the children will be creating a 3D town scene with the addition of fire engines, police cars and ambulances.  If a town was ever in trouble, this one is going to be the one!  Leading on from this children will be measuring distance as they use the chutes to make their cars travel further.  Which one will win?  How can we make them go further?

Lastly, it’s the 1st of December on Wednesday, and so upstairs in our home corner, we will be getting prepared by decorating our home with festive ware.  Have you ordered the turkey?

Home Learning

  • Explore colours and consistencies by allowing me to make magic potions.  Don’t forget to give me pen and paper so that I can label my creations.
  • To encourage healthy eating, let me make a face out of chopped fruit and vegetables.  Now let me eat it. Yummy!
