Butterflies Learning Experiences W/c 26th September 2016

Children have been keen to share their knowledge of roads and traffic in their play of Fire Fighters.  We have been seeing children pretending to be Policemen as they direct traffic and putting their hands up to inform them that they need to STOP!  This week we will be taking it a step further as we create zebra crossings and visit the local town to test out our road safety rules of stop, look and listen.

After being so keen on Mini Beasts and discovering a toad in the garden, we will be thinking about other small creatures and how they need to prepare for the coming winter.  As we go on a forest walk to collect natural materials for a nature collage will we see squirrels gathering nuts or hedgehogs burrowing under the golden leaves?

Many children are keen to discover the letters of their name and this will be a main focus as we explore letters in the malleable area with coloured spaghetti.  Attempting to form our special letters by using streamer shakers and parts of our bodies as well as thinking and creating other three letter words too.  How do we spell Mum or Dad?  In the maths area we will be offering a range of natural and household objects as we attempt to balance, weigh, count and sort.  There will be plenty of reasoning as we discuss the ideas behind the actions.

Meanwhile in our small world area we will be getting imaginative with our fantasy world of fairies and princesses, alongside pirates and treasure.  From our success of puppets look out for our shadow table as we attempt to make shadow puppets with our hands, black paper and torches.

Finally from the excitement of our first aid box in the home corner, we will be looking to promote fine motor skills as we use tweezers to play the traditional operation game along with other such fun that will include beat the buzzer  and the crocodile dentist game.  Taking turns will be so much fun!
