Butterflies Learning Experiences W/c 23rd October 2016

Posted on Sunday, October 23, 2016 in Butterflies Learning

The interest of parties is still a keen interest, and so this week we will be taking this further as we introduce the popular celebration of Halloween through our arts and crafts.  The children are already starting to talk about the costumes that they will be wearing!  The children will be making Halloween decorations for our outside area in readiness for some afternoon tea parties with our friends.  With Halloween comes Pumpkins, are you aware of just how many different varieties and colours you can buy? Come and visit our Stepping Stones Veg shop to find out as we continue to explore, numerals, money, shape, size and weight.

Pumpkins will be key, with the chance to explore what they look like inside and feel the texture with our fingers.  We will be attempting to carve funny faces as well as making a pumpkin soup and a pumpkin pie to eat during our afternoon sessions.

In our malleable area come and see our jelly worms.  Will you be able to make short and long ones?  Whose will be the longest?  Lets use our tape measures and find out. I wonder if you will be able to lay them out in size order from the longest to the shortest and can you count how many you have got?

We have had so much fun with the conkers that George brought in, and they are still a remaining interest going from counting to rolling them down chutes. This week we will be introducing tweezers and spoons to the mixture, with socks to fill in the hope that the socks will stretch longways rather than width ways!  How many will you be able to fit inside?  Just how long will your sock go?

With the chutes becoming so popular look out for the marble runs as children decide how they are going to create theirs. Alongside the Beets, we will be providing the wooden blocks to see if the children can make mazes that they can travel along.  Look out for the positional language as they turn left and right.  Will they be able to reach the middle?

Home Learning

Let me sort out the pairs of shoes so that they go from small to big.

Let me give you instructions for an obstacle course, like “Go under the blanket”, “Go through the tunnel” and “Go under the chair”.
