Butterflies Learning Experiences W/c 17th October 2016

So many children are celebrating their birthdays at the moment and with the excitement of making cakes and enjoying the dancing and singing through the theme of the carnival.  Which better way to go.  This week the children will have plenty of opportunities to organise their own party as they decorate their house, send out invitations and explore the healthy options as they decide on their food choices.  There will be presents to wrap and party games to play, as well as deciding on what they are going to wear.

The Supermarket has been a great success and this will be extended further as we introduce the concept of money int o the equation.  Will you be able to match the correct coinage to the figure on the tin?  Can you count out the required amount of pennies?   Once bought how good are you at packing?  Will it all fit into your bag or will you need a bigger one?  Thinking about food we will be introducing our “Silly Soup Game” as we encourage children to link and match objects that rhyme.  Will you be able to find something that rhymes with cat?  How about rug or tree?

Outside we will be using sand to create cake moulds of special designs and children will be thinking about hand and eye co-ordination as they attempt to cut the cake with out allowing the cherry to fall off.  By taking turns I wonder who will win?

Finally the children have particularly enjoyed using a range of construction to build houses and castles.  This will be taken one step further as we create a whole construction site with high vis jackets, work tools, helmets and equipment.  Get your building plans ready as we build BIG!

Home Learning

  • Read a recipe to me as we make a cake together
  • Let me build from cardboard boxes or wooden bricks.  Use words like “long” or “tall” to describe my model.
