Stepping Stones News Letter

September 2018

Dear Parents,

Welcome back to a new term.  We would like to take the opportunity to welcome all the new children and their families into the setting and hope that you are ready for a lot of FUN!  September is always an exciting time of year for us as we meet new families and introduce them to lots of new experiences.  With Autumn fast approaching children will be celebrating Harvest, Bonfire Night, Halloween and Carnival Time alongside festivities of other customs such as Diwali; ‘The Festival of Light’.  If you have any traditions or festivals that you would like us to bring into the nursery, please let us know as we would love to learn and join in with your fun too.

New Staff  As well as new families, it is also time to welcome our new staff.  In the Bumble Bee Unit, we would like to introduce Joanna.  Joanna is a level two who has much experience including working with the local Children Centre and has undertaken the Thrive Training.  Karen and Bonnie are joining the Caterpillar Room.  Bonnie is an apprentice, who is keen to work with children and Karen who will be joining us in October is a level three who has recently moved to the area and is returning to work after maternity leave.  Karen will be doing two days a week.

Tapestry Over the last month or so our Teams have been working hard to make our planning and play more effective for our children, through this you will notice that your child’s Tapestry will now have a slightly different layout.

To spend more time in the rooms, we have reduced what we put on Tapestry to ‘Wow’ moments and three observations per month.  Rest assured your children’s learning and development will continue to be monitored through focused areas within the room and newly devised sheets which clearly show where your children currently are and where we want to progress them.  Your input is still very much needed, and we would love to see your children’s experiences and learning from home.  Your input enables us to bring their interests into the nursery but also allows us to link it to their profiles and add next steps to follow the learning through.   You will discover Home Learning for your child on the bottom of one observation per month; please include these activities on Tapestry if you can.  Please note more generalised home learning for your group can be found in the foyer too.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

Come and Join Us on the 28th September for a McMillan Coffee Afternoon (3 p.m. – 6 p.m.); Emma in the BumbleBee Room has organised this event to encourage you to play and stay with your children while supporting McMillan Cancer Support.  As well as being a very worthwhile course it is an opportunity to experience ‘Nursery Life’ alongside your child and join in with the different kinds of play that are available.  All Staff will be available to talk to, and it will be an ideal time to discover how we learn through play.  The children will be making cakes for this event, so please bring your pennies and if you wish to bake at home with your child donations will be gratefully received.

Cheese! As per every year, Tempest will be coming to Nursery on Saturday the 6th of October.  In the foyer, you will notice a sheet for you to book in your sessions if you would like.  Photos always arrive in time for Christmas, and there is never an obligation to buy.  We never take the commission, but instead, put all attendees into a draw, and someone will win value of up to thirty pounds in photos.

Funding It is Head Count Week on the week commencing the 17th September.  Please ensure that you speak to the Team Leaders of the Caterpillars or Butterfly Group to confirm and sign the funded hours that your child is attending.  If you are accessing another setting, these must be declared.  Beware if you are seen to provide false information repayment will be insisted.

Availability  Unfortunately we are struggling to accommodate any more children or changes of hours at this current time.  The Bumblebees are now full until April 2019, and the Caterpillars and Butterflies in September 2019.  Please consider this when requesting a change in day and be prepared, that sadly we may have to say no.   If you are considering increasing your child’s hours once they become eligible for funding, can you please let us know as soon as possible so that we can take this into consideration when booking in future new children.

Check your Term Dates From the above can you please make sure that you check our Term Dates which are on display in the Foyer.  Unfortunately, at times these do vary from the School Terms, as per above we may not be able to accommodate you if you are Term Time only.  Times, Please ensure that you are booked in for the right hours, to ensure that we are always in ratio and can provide the best care.

Finally, if you have any ideas to improve our services further or would like to volunteer your self for a storytelling session, playing a musical instrument, sharing a pet, talking about your job or any other such talents, please let us know.  We would love to see you, even if it is just for a play and stay session.

Thank you for your ongoing support

Clare, Chris, Bertie and the Team at Stepping Stones
