Stepping Stones News Letter October 2017

Looking back on past Newsletters, our introductions usually begin with where has the time gone!  However it has to be said, we are now in October, and our Newsletter is well overdue, with so many things happening in the last month.  In September we welcomed new children into our setting amongst all the age groups, and I have to say they have settled extremely well and appear to be enjoying their time with us.  The Butterflies have been enjoying a range of topics from Emergency services to The Hungry Caterpillar and are now discovering the Galaxy through the exploration of Space.  The Caterpillars have discovered the world of stories through a range of scenarios that involved brewing tea for Bear Snores On and making a rocket out of a box for Whatever Next.  Meanwhile, in the Bumblebees, we have explored the schemas of rotation and enveloping as we have introduced rotational treasure baskets and dens to build and explore.  To find out what is happening at nursery, don’t forget to look at our display boards at the entrance to each of the rooms.  There are also ideas for Home Learning too! As the term moves on, there are some dates for your diary so please continue to read on to find out more….

Hayley’s Baby

Congratulations to Hayley and Matthew who had a baby boy named Ellis on the 11th September 2017.  He weighed in at 8lbs, and both Mum and baby are doing well.  The Butterflies were all very excited about his first visit to Nursery.

New Staff Members

In September, we had three new members of staff join the Caterpillar team.  Jess Harvey (Level 3) who has had previous experience and was working within a school decided that she wanted to be back within the early year’s sector.  Angel Rowley was working in a residential home, however, felt that she wanted to re-train in early years and so has started her apprenticeship with us.  Least but not last we have also taken on Lucy Cox who completed a Health and Social Care course in June and from this decided that she too wanted to specialise in this sector too.  All of these have settled well into the Caterpillar room and have already built some lovely relationships with their key children.

Photos took place on the 7th October and should be returning back to us very soon.  The winner of the free photos was awarded to the first person to hand it back in was Olivia Gove.

Term Dates

October half term commences on the 23rd with children returning to Nursery on the 30th October.  For Term Time only children the end of the term is the 15th December, and for the full-timers it will be the 22nd.  Please see the Christmas Party below.

All children will return to Nursery on the Tuesday 2nd January.

School’s Open Evening

Hopefully, you have all seen the posters displaying our Open Evening  but just in case; this worthwhile event is taking place on the 9th November at 6.00p.m.  There is a creche available although we will need to know if you require this in advance.  The evening entails meeting a range of local schools within the area and finding out how to register your child.  We will finish off the evening with ten top tips on how to get your child school ready and a prize draw to win five free hours of childcare.  We look forward to seeing you there.

The Butterflies Nativity Play and The Caterpillars Carol Service

During the week commencing the 15th of December, the Butterflies and Caterpillars will be presenting their shows to the parents.  Pleas look out for more information on the notice boards for when to book your place.  We and the children look forward to seeing, as many of you as possible.

Christmas Party

Our Christmas Party takes place on our last day, the 22nd December.  All children will be invited, whether they are Term Time or All Year children. The party will start at 10.00 a.m. finishing at 11.30a.m.  There will be food, games, magic and of course Father Christmas!

Learning and Development

The Bumblebees, Caterpillars and younger children of the Butterflies are all invited to make appointments with their Key Worker to discuss their children’s learning and development in conjunction with Tapestry.   Don’t forget that there is an expectation for you as parents to put on Tapestry your child’s home learning as part of your contract with Stepping Stones.

Two-Year-old Checks

All children from the age of 24 months are due to a two-year check.  It is a legal requirement for us as practitioners to write reports in readiness for these reviews with the Health Visitor.  Unfortunately, there are times when we miss these due to not being told.  With this in mind, all two Year checks will be done at 24 months and will be available for you to give to your health visitor Via Tapestry. We are writing to all health visitors to let them know we are doing this, so they are there for you to access, and give to the Health Visitor.

For the first time this year, I am going to be ahead of the game as I wish you all a Merry Christmas in advance!!

Best Wishes

Clare and Chris and the Stepping Stones Team

Have you logged into Tapestry and had a look at your child’s learning journal.  If you have not recently done so, please do take the time to log in and look.  The team put a lot of time and effort into Tapestry, in the hope you will enjoy looking at the achievements your child has made. Remember home learning and next steps are periodically posted to help you with your child’s development.  If you are having trouble logging in don’t hesitate to ask and we can reset passwords or help with any issues you may be having.
