Caterpillar’s Learning Experiences W/c 9th January 2017

Posted on Sunday, January 8, 2017 in Caterpillars Learning

The Caterpillar’s have enjoyed exploring the ice in their garden last week so, to extend this interest further we will have our very own Wintery ice tray for them to investigate. We will have leaves, pinecones and twigs frozen within the water for the children, and using various tools the Caterpillar’s will be able to dig them out.

The children have enjoyed listening to stories about bears as well as playing with them, so this week we will be looking at counting bears. Using a variety of size teddies, we will be able to count them out, order them in height and even match numeral to quantity. How many bears can you count? Which one is the biggest? Can you find three bears? These will be some of the questions asked as the children explore counting and ordering.

‘Say CHEESE!’ The Caterpillar’s will be able to explore a variety of real and toy camera’s and telephones this week. We love to take pictures of ourselves and our friends and using the camera’s we can pretend to do this. If we are lucky, maybe we can even use one of the grownup’s iPad’s to take some pictures and have a look at them. We will also be able to make lots of phone calls to our Mummies and Daddies as well as our friends, using the buttons and dials on the keypad we will type in our numbers. Let’s hope we can remember them! Who are you going to phone? Can you remember what you were going to ask them?

Let’s clean up! After having a very messy day, we need to remember to clean and tidy everything away. In our garden, we will be exploring our malleable home corner where the children will be able to wash and dry our dishes before we make our food and wash our dressing up clothes if we get them dirty. What do you think we will need to clean our clothes? How do we wash the dishes? Did you get the stains out of your top?

Home Learning

  • When we go out for a walk let me take pictures of the things I see around me. Maybe we can even make a scrap book of the pictures so I can remember and learn about the new things I have seen.
  • Let me help with the washing at home! I can help sort the clothes into piles, or even help to place them in the machine.
