Caterpillar’s Learning Experiences W/c 5th December 2016

Posted on Sunday, December 4, 2016 in Caterpillars Learning

Christmas is coming, and we’re getting prepared!  Following our children’s interests, we will be creating new ways to fish as we provide nets to fish out balls of various colours.  Will you pick out all the red ones?  Can you count how many you have?  To make it a little more, Christmassy look out for the sparkly ones with string.  Testing out your fine motor skills maybe you will be able to hang it on a tree?  Talking of trees look out for our very own Christmas tree colour sorter.  Will you be able to push the coloured balls through the correct holes?

Moving on from shapes this week we will be exploring Christmas shapes as we go on a hunt searching for presents of various shapes and sizes.  Meanwhile alongside there will be an opportunity to make your senses tingle with an array of spices and scents that remind us of the festive spirit as we mould and shape our sparkly coloured play dough.  Will you be able to create Christmas shapes of holly, berries, trees, crackers, stars, bells and snowmen?

As we are yet to have snow, while waiting we will be exploring fake snow as we consider its texture and temperature before making various marks in it with a range of tools.  Will you be able to make a snow angel or footprints of some description?

Last but not least the children will be preparing and learning new songs in readiness for their Christmas Carol service that will be taking place on the week commencing the 12th of December.  Look out for the invite on the door.  We look forward to seeing you all!

Home Learning

  • Let me make some Christmas cards for my friends.  I can use crayons to make marks.  Paper to glue and scissors to cut.
  • Take me for a walk into town and show me all the pretty decorations.  Introduce me to new words as you tell me all about Christmas.
