Caterpillar’s Learning Experiences W/c 3rd January 2017

Posted on Sunday, January 1, 2017 in Caterpillars Learning

Happy New Year! Now is the time to welcome all our new children to the Caterpillar group.  We look forward to getting to know you all.  Fresh back from Christmas we will be reintroducing our resources through a variety of exciting activities.  I’m sure there will be something for everyone!

In our home corner, we will be thinking about our experiences and bring them into our play.  How does Mummy cook the dinner? Can you make tea for two?  Oh, there’s washing to be done and the telephones ringing?  Busy, busy, busy.

In our small world area, there will be garages and vehicles of different shape, colour and sizes.  Will they fit into that space or do you need a smaller one?  Where will your car take you?  What is in that Dumper Truck?  What do you use a fire engine for?  Let’s explore as we go on plenty of journeys throughout the week.

There will be plenty of textures to explore as we investigate sand with mark making tools, water to fill and empty and Jelly Baf to feel as they search for sea animals hidden underneath.

Meanwhile, in our maths area, we will be looking at numbers and shapes as we build with an assortment of bricks, complete shape sorters and introduce our jelly numbers.  To further encourage trial and error there will be the opportunity to explore ICT toys as we discover how they work by pressing, pushing, twisting and turning a range of buttons, handles and levers.  Amongst all this activity we will be thinking about turn-taking, how we play alongside others and making new friendships.
