Caterpillar’s Learning Experiences W/c 12th December 2016

Posted on Sunday, December 11, 2016 in Caterpillars Learning

We’re one week closer to the big day, and there is an awful lot of talk about Santa and what he does. How will he manage to wrap all those presents on time?  This week the Caterpillars will be helping him as they continue with the theme of Santa’s grotto.   Meanwhile, over in the maths area, there will be presents already wrapped of different shapes and sizes.  Will you be able to point out the round present or find the tall one?   Which one will have four sides?  Can you name the shapes?Going along the maths theme look out for the snowmen will you be able to match the correct numbered hats to the snowman with the same number of buttons?  Will you be able to put the correct number of baubles on the tree?

After all this hard work of decorating the house!  It’s time to party, and so the Caterpillars will be getting their hair done at the local hairdressers before putting on their party frocks and dancing to the regular festive tunes.

Over in our malleable and sensory area, we continue to explore the idea of snow with another new texture called cloud dough.  Although a powdery texture, it is also good for moulding and building so look out for our creative snowmen!  Also, we will be introducing our seasonal sensory tray with wrapping paper, bells, ribbons, bows, sparkles and baubles alongside our Christmassy texture books. Don’t forget to sniff the air for the scent of Christmas too.  It’s nearly here!

Home Learning

  • Take me outside to explore the weather. There may not be snow but there could be puddles.  Let me explore them by finding things that might float in them such as leaves.  Add some glitter or flowers, give it a stir with a stick to create real magic.
  • Make a chart of some different shapes and take me on a shape hunt inside our own home.  Who can find the most?
