This week the Caterpillars are going Jurassic as we explore the world of the dinosaurs.  There will be plenty of opportunities to investigate, colour, size and quantity as well as using our loud and quiet voices as we stomp across the terrain.  With the introduction of some dinosaur stories maybe we can learn how to move just like them? Meanwhile, over in the maths area, the Caterpillars will be exploring numeral to quantity as they count beads into the relevant numerals in the bun tins.  For...

The Caterpillar’s have enjoyed exploring the ice in their garden last week so, to extend this interest further we will have our very own Wintery ice tray for them to investigate. We will have leaves, pinecones and twigs frozen within the water for the children, and using various tools the Caterpillar’s will be able to dig them out. Happy New Year! Now is the time to welcome all our new children to the Caterpillar group.  We look forward to getting to know you all.  Fresh back from Christmas we will be reintroducing our resources through a variety of exciting activities.  I’m sure there will be something for everyone! Last week we explored the Artic through small world play, introducing animals such as penguins, polar bears, seals and whales.  This week we’re taking it one step further as we use our coloured torches to create the Northern Lights! This will link in nicely with our malleable area where we will introduce colour mixing into our snow using pipettes and watching the effect as the colour drips on to the substance.  Wow! Our hairdressing has now been extended onto our pets as we prepare them for...

We’re one week closer to the big day, and there is an awful lot of talk about Santa and what he does. How will he manage to wrap all those presents on time?  This week the Caterpillars will be helping him as they continue with the theme of Santa’s grotto.   Meanwhile, over in the maths area, there will be presents already wrapped of different shapes and sizes.  Will you be able to point out the round present or find the tall one?   Which one will have four sides?  Can you name the shapes?Going...

Christmas is coming, and we’re getting prepared!  Following our children’s interests, we will be creating new ways to fish as we provide nets to fish out balls of various colours.  Will you pick out all the red ones?  Can you count how many you have?  To make it a little more, Christmassy look out for the sparkly ones with string.  Testing out your fine motor skills maybe you will be able to hang it on a tree?  Talking of trees look out for our very own Christmas tree colour sorter.  Will you...
