Butterflies Learning Experiences W/c 13th April 2015

Posted on Friday, April 10, 2015 in Butterflies Learning

We have had a great deal of interest in vehicles recently so to continue this interest on our maths shelves are completely devoted to vehicles, using the sorting set vehicles, puzzles, play cars and aeroplanes so that the children can sort and count how many they have. This will then also incorporate size and height and the different amount of wheels that each vehicle has bringing in mathematical language of more or less and bigger and smaller.

The children have been thoroughly enjoying their time spent in the role play area with the kitchen and play food so to extend this further we are putting the role play in with the malleable and having play dough and different ingredients such as flour and rice so that the children can measure, mix and stir and cook up a delight in the kitchen. This will enable the children to use one handed tools and equipment and also manipulate materials to make a change. There will also be opportunities for the children to carry out their own cooking activities so that we can also talk about our heath and self care routine.

The children have all enjoyed the lovely weather so we have spent quite a lot of the holidays using our outside area, to continue outdoor play we have put lots of different balls out so that the children can practice their throwing, catching, rolling and kicking skills.

Home Learning

Why not play your own game of counting cars at home and see how many you can count altogether out of the window or why not go for a walk down the road to see how many cars you can see. You could even categorise and see how many of each colour you can find.

Why not carry out a baking activity at home with your child. I wander what yummy things you might make!!

Enjoy this lovely weather by playing some ball games with your child to continue practising their ball skills at home.
