Butterflies Learning Experiences W/c 16th January 2017

Posted on Sunday, January 15, 2017 in Butterflies Learning

The Butterflies have enjoyed the week of healthy living, and the exercise regime continues with the addition of our climbing frame to explore various ways to move.  Will you be able to climb or crawl across a ladder?  Can you crouch down low to fit through the gap?  Will you be brave enough to climb to the top and put your leg over?

The children have enjoyed the colour mixing and the water, and this week we are extending on both in various ways.  Look out for our black out area, where torches will be needed to discover a range of colours through the use of our colour paddles.  Will you be able to recognise and name them?  Will you be able to make new colours?  Can you remember how to make orange, green and purple?  As for the water, we will be creating an investigation area of various objects to explore.  How does water effect different materials?  Why do some things float and another sink?  What does the effect of soap flakes, fairy liquid have on it?  What do we need water for?

Over in the small world area, we will be looking at various modes of transport and thinking about their uses. With the addition of various construction, we will be creating our own designs and testing them out for their speed and effectiveness.  Will your boat float?  How far will your aeroplane fly?

The Butterflies are now showing a real interest in their letters with many attempting to write their names.  To continue this interest, we will be carrying out a range of activities that will be focusing on letter formation using gross motor skills, various mark making activities and resources that promote letter recognition as well as naming and sounding out.  I wonder if you will be able to sound out and write some other words too?

Finally, with the enjoyment of the cafe area, we will be extending on our menu to use alliteration in our play.  Will you want the sizzling sausages, the chunky chips or the jumping jelly?  Because many children have enjoyed catering Birthday Party upstairs, down in our maths area, we will be using numerals to the quantity to create cakes for 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5-year-olds.  Will you be able to put the correct amount of candles on the cake?

Home Learning

  • Play games where you give me an instruction like “Can you j-u-m-p?” or “Can you h-o-p?” and I have to put the sounds together and show you the action?
  • Have a pretend party for my dolls and teddies with me.  How many cups and plates will I need?
